It’s been a while, since my last post π and of course, watching Cristiano Ronaldo in a Manchester United shirt. With an unpredictable transfer window coming to a close, both GOATS π, Messi and Ronaldo, will challenge for the Ballon D’Or in a new uniform. Let’s dig right in !
Both clubs are taking opposite approaches; PSG is being cautious with Messi’s fitness while Man United are putting the reins back in the hands of Ronaldo, right away. The result, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace against Newcastle in his return to Old Trafford, 4-1 victory, while Messi is yet to start for PSG. Furthermore, Ronaldo scored again in the Champions League game against Young Boys, only to lose 2-1 at the end thanks to a Aaron Wan-Bissaka sending off and a Lingard backpass. Speaking of former clubs, Barcelona struggled to get anything going in an almost empty Camp Nou as they were beaten 3-0 by Bayern Munich. Chelsea kick-started their Champions League title defence with a 1-0 home win over Zenit thanks to Lukaku. Romelu Lukaku has now scored four goals in the last four games for Chelsea (fantasy PL folks like me going π€©).
Old foes met again when AC Milan visited a packed Anfield to face Liverpool. The tie went to Liverpool after they were (surprisingly) 2-1 down at half-time and came back to win 3-2, thanks to a Jordan Henderson half volley from outside the box ! Manchester City thrashed 10-men RB Leipzig 6-3 while PSG were held to a 1-1 draw at Brugge. Real Madrid edged out Inter Milan 1-0 as San Siro.
Domestic Competitions:
A delicious lineup of games awaits us this weekend with the English Premier League having a 5-way tie at the top of the table with Tottenham facing Chelsea in a (yet another π) London derby being the highlight of the slate.
Four wins in four for Wolfsburg as they are two points clear of Bayern in a very early season table.
AC Milan beat Lazio 2-0 to stay unbeaten and joint top of the Serie A standings alongside Mourinho’s Roma and Napoli. Juventus had a disastrous start to the season with a single point in three games.
Real Madrid, Atleti and Valencia share the top of the table with 10 points in four games. Barcelona could join them if they win their game in hand. Valencia take on Real Madrid this weekend !
With a jam packed season underway, we will also keep an eye on the World Cup qualifiers going on around the world during the international breaks ! Stay tuned for more next week π
