This might actually turn up in Parisian restaurants some day !π This week’s Champions League action was highlighted with dominant wins by PSG and Real Madrid. Mbappe out paced the Bayern defense twice sandwiching a clever Marquinhos strike to win 2-3 away at a snowy Allianz Arena. The tie is still delicately poised and one should never rule out the defending champions. At the other end of the high-profile early knockout games spectrum, Real Madrid held their firm and won 3-1 in their home leg against Liverpool. Man City take a slender, stoppage time (Phil Foden: The Wonder’lad’) lead, to Dortmund with a 2-1 advantage. Chelsea looked comfortable beating Porto 2-0 away from home.
This week had a couple of matches to “Watch Out For (WOF)” in the Premier League, when West Ham United having their best season in a couple of decades I believe, took on Leicester City while Manchester United faced Spurs. Let’s dig right in π
Leeds United shocked the eventual champions (or let’s hold that thought) Man City with 2-1, 10-men, away win ! Liverpool needed a stoppage time, Trent AA thunderbolt, to secure a comeback win over Aston Villa at Anfield. This snaps their 6 game losing streak at home (what a season indeed). Chelsea smashed four past Crystal Palace in a (one of many) London derby with Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic making it into the scoresheet. Yes, Chelsea had the best summer transfer window last year, remember ? π
West Ham United got a dominant start going 3-0 up until Kelechi Iheanacho made it close, with the Hammers eventually winning 3-2. West Ham now find themselves fourth with a point clear above Chelsea in fifth. Manchester United needed a spirited second half comeback to win 3-1 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to continue their relentless pursuit of their cross-town rivals, Man City. Arsenal sprung back to form with another double from their Frenchman, Lacazette, beating Sheffield United 3-0. It looks almost impossible for the Blades to be a part of the Premier League next season. All in all, this 2020-21 Premier League is turning out to be gripping as we inch closer to the Match Week 38 on May 23 rd.
Elsewhere in Europe, Lille is holding its ground with a 3 point gap to PSG while Inter Milan seems to be running away with the Serie A title. RB Leipzig is still looking to swallow a 5 point gap to Bayern Munich, who lead the Bundesliga at the moment. Atletico Madrid is almost imploding with another draw which reduced their lead atop La Liga to a single point! Stay tuned for next weeks updates around the footballing world π
Upset ALERT: 10 man Leeds United beat Premier League leaders Manchester City 2-1 away from home.
